I hope everyone is enjoying your vacation break! Just a small update on our current acitivites, we are having two major events coming up – Astrochallenge (June 12th, 13th and 15th) and Sentosa overnight CIP trip (30th-31st May). We are currently looking for helpers for these two events. CCA points will be awarded for next year. A brief rundown of the two events,
AstroChallenge is an annual astronomy competition jointly organised by the Astronomical societies of National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Marine Parade Community Centre. The competition is targeted and specially tailored for students in Secondary Schools, Junior Colleges and Polytechnics.
The competition aims to enhance students’ interest and knowledge in astronomy, and hopes to foster closer inter-school ties through the common interest of astronomy. Students will be exposed to a comprehensive array of questions that range from theoretical astronomy to practical astronomy. You can also refer to http://www.nusas.org/astrochallenge/
for more details of the competition.
Helpers will be required for all 3 days, but you still can help even if you are unavailable for some of the 3 days! Helpers are required to do ushering, invigilate the students during the rounds, assist the quizmasters with their carrying out of the rounds, and help to do other logistical matters. The following are the dates and times we need your help:
12 June at NTU – 1230hrs to 1730hrs, OR 1230hrs to 2130hrs (with observation round)
13 June at Marine Parade CC – 1330hrs to 2030hrs
15 June at NUS – 0900hrs to 1830hrs
Sentosa overnight CIP trip:
NUSAS together with students from the Yong Yoo Lin school will be assisting in the organising of an observation camp for the children from HAS (Home Care Assisi). The camp is organised for children aged between 10-18 whose parents are suffering from cancer. The aim of the camp is to free them from the stress at home and also allow them to meet and interact with others like them.
The camp will be held over a weekend from 30th to 31st May (Sat & Sun). The observation session will be from about 8pm onwards, and we would like helpers to come stay overnight with us to help us with this event.. We are targeting about 24 teenagers.
Before the observation session which starts at 8pm, we will also be holding a small fun NUSAS outing at Sentosa. It will be in the afternoon, the timing will be confirmed at a later date. The aim of the outing is to play games, get to know each other and most importantly, HAVE FUN!
Do the above events sound interesting? Do you feel the urge to be part of either or both of them? If yes, please drop me a mail by 20th May, Weds!
