The National University of Singapore Astronomical Society (NUSAS) was set up in December 1997. Its main objective is to promote interest in astronomy among students and staff of the National University of Singapore.

NUSAS is active throughout the year and constantly planning various activities and events for the members’ benefit.
Below are some of the activities organised by the society.
- Society Meetings
These are fortnightly meetings (about five per semester) where members gather around for a relaxing evening of presentations, night sky observations and general discussion about astronomical topics. It is also the time when news of future events and activities are announced.
- Festivity Celebrations
NUSAS celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival (in Semester I) and Chinese New Year (in Semester II) annually by organising a special gathering. Full of games, fun, and laughter, these meetings are truly enjoyable and memorable.
- Observations / Trips / Visits
Sometimes, astronomical societies of other organisations would invite NUSAS to their observation sessions. These are excellent opportunities to know fellow enthusiasts outside NUS. Also, NUSAS occasionally organises trips and visits to observatories and great observation sites.
Well, it isn’t an actual “bash”, but a fun-filled trip organised by NUSAS to neighbouring countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia where the night sky is excellent for stargazing. Besides the overnight observation, participants can also immerse themselves in the various activities available while enjoying plenty of free-and-easy periods for their own self-relaxation.[For more information on Astrobash, please visit the Astrobash subpage.]
Astrochallenge is a prestigious annual event jointly organised by NUSAS and the NTU Astronomical Society. Usually held in June, it is a competitive event where participants from Secondary Schools, Junior Colleges and Polytechnics throughout Singapore gather and pit their wits and skills in challenging rounds of quizzes and practical astronomy.[For more information on Astrochallenge, please visit the Astrochallenge webpage.]
